A ROLLICKING NEW PICTURE BOOK FOR GIRLS AND BOYS OF FIVE TO NINETY-FIVE
OR SO.
(So new that it doesn't have a publisher yet!)
This exuberant tale of trolls and yoomuns is illustrated with genius by
David Roberts.
A joy to look at and great fun to read aloud. I know about the reading
because I've done it.
These are Norfolk country trolls, by the way. Bootiful.

Odds trollikins! What's this a'falling into Widdershins'
rascalberry jelly?
Why, a yoomun babe, that's what. Bad news. Now the dreaded yoomuns will
think
the trolls
of Troll Beardy have stolen their ickle one and come after them!
What is
to be done?

The trolls decide that the
only thing for it is to return the babe in secret - and that
Widdershins
is the troll to do it. Trouble is, Widdershins has no sense of direction
at all, which is why
everyone is always asking where he is.
So two young trolls called
Snirkle and Grotta
are sent with him to make sure that he and the baby
get to the yoomun town.

But oh, what terrible scrapes and difficulties they get into along the way,
what dreadful
fates and creatures to meet before teatime (Widdershins' favourite meal
- he sneaks
half-a-dozen teatimes a day if he can get away with it)!

You might wonder why a book
like this is not in print. Well, the text and illustrations were
commissioned
four or five years ago by a small independent publisher of attractive
books of various kinds (not just children's books);
but shortly after Where's Widdershins? went to the
printers for proofing the company went out of business and had to be sold.
Our book was one of the casualties of the transaction. But what a shame
if it's never put between covers.
