Dennis Hamley is a former teacher whose first children's novel, Pageants of Despair, was published in 1974, since when he has published over fifty books: novels, short story collections and non-fiction.

        

 

 

   

 

 

   

 

     

Linda Newbery's first published book, Run with the Hare, came out in 1988. Since then she has written fiction for children of all ages. ELLIS NADLER

Ellis Nadler is a freelance illustrator with a bold bright cartoon style who works in advertising, design and publishing. He also does the snazzy covers for my Jiggy McCue novels.

   

 

 

   

 

 

   

 

     

Mike Jubb is a former primary school teacher whose poems for children have appeared in numerous anthologies. He has published a book of his own verse, The Burblings of the Jubb-Jubb Bird, and he co-wrote the inspirational A Poetry Teacher's Toolkit.

   

 

 

   

 

 

   
       

Paula Knight's delightful illustrations have enlivened many books for the very young. She has also provided illustrations for greetings cards, magazines and The National Trust. She writes children's stories too.

   
 

 

   

 

 

   

 

     

Since Bernard Ashley published his first novel in 1974 he has gained a reputation as a 'gritty' writer for children with an intuitive understanding of the way children think and behave. Twice runner-up for the Carnegie Medal, Bernard has also written very successfully for TV.  

   

 

 

   

 

 

   

 

     

Tim Bowler

Tim Bowler has a passion for the sea which goes back to his childhood on the Essex coast. His reading as a boy reflected this passion, with many of his favourite books being in some way concerned with the sea. His novel River Boy won the Carnegie Medal in 1998.

   

 

     

 

 

   

 

     

Michael Coleman successfully juggles his love of football with writing for children. He does this by writing books about football. But he's written other books too, one of which is Carnegie shortlisted Weirdo's War.
